I was so inspired one morning when I got into my car, and the windshield was covered with a layer of ice. The sun was shining through it, and it was just so beautiful. I snapped a couple of photos, and that became my inspiration for my "Ice Series" portraits. My son, Brett, posted the paintings I did of him on his facebook page asking if anyone wanted to be part of my "ice series", and that's what challenged me to keep drawing..
The reference photo's I used were of Brett Azar, Renes Rivera (original photo by Bjorne Kommerell), Richard Protheus Rodriguez, Kelsey Elliot (original photo by Roberto Ligresti Studio)
I start with a black and white line drawing, layer the ice photo behind the sketch, and add the highlights. I work digitally, on my iPad using the app Procreate.
Now - for all the quilters who are reading this blog post - YES--- eventually this will end up as an art quilt - Stay tuned!!
